Hurricane Michael Aftermath

In the aftermath of a disaster, there are always stories of people who quietly, with little or no fanfare, step up to help those in need. We’re so very proud of our own Tammy Waddell, who has been working tirelessly since #HurricaneMichael to feed thousands of meals to residents in some of our smallest, forgotten, Florida communities. She’s gathered a group of people to help (shout out here to the guys in Tobacco Road Band) and they’ve gone down back roads and dirt roads, helping people who have no food or shelter.

The stories she has been telling us take heartbreaking to a new level. Starving people. Families with small children living outside their unsafe home. No tents. No nothing.

Tammy saw the need and has been doing all she can to help, and she’s not alone. Our hearts are filled with sorrow for those who have lost everything, but proud of all of those who have stepped up to serve.

She’s on her way again today, with cars filled with the generous donations of The Kearney Center (who has been providing food for days, now), Gaines Street Pies, the entire Fasig Brooks staff, and Willie Selosky (who volunteers with Veterans Village). Thanks to them, the folks in Altha are going to receive hot meals for lunch today and dinner tonight.

The needs are great, and the work is just begun. We are #FloridaStrong and #TallahasseeProud!
